Herman Miller Chairs Suck

Austen:

Hello again, friends. We're back. And on today's episode, I'm thinking I've been thinking about something recently, and it's that Herman Miller chairs are super uncomfortable. Maybe I have the wrong one. I've tried several.

Austen:

Why like, I just keep coming back to this thought of, like, why are they so bad? Why are they so bad? If and if you're out there listening to this sitting on a Herman Miller chair, you know, I feel bad for you. I feel bad for your body because I'm telling you, I have this chair sitting right here. I mean, it's right here, this Herman Miller chair.

Austen:

I bought it new, which was probably a mistake. It's a nice Aeron chair. I find it so uncomfortable. It is crazy. I had a Herman Miller Mira chair before this.

Austen:

I found it very uncomfortable. The plastic, like, backrest was not and I get it. It's a task chair. It's not supposed to be comfortable. I'm like, okay.

Austen:

Well, I'm my back hurts after sitting here for an hour or two. Like, I've tried every setting. Like, this is this is not my first, rodeo on office ergonomics here. So that's yeah. I guess all that to say, what am I gonna do about it?

Austen:

I don't need to just sit here and poo poo on the Herman Miller chairs. What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna list my chair on Craigslist today. And, yes, Craigslist is still alive, I think. And so I'm gonna list my chair on Craigslist today. And if it sells, then I'll go buy a new chair.

Austen:

I had a I had a Steelcase Leap chair, the original Steelcase Steelcase Leap. Right? It was a great chair. Turns out I'm a chair guy. Okay.

Austen:

My friends don't know me as the chair guy, I hope. I don't know. I just tried a lot of ergonomic chairs, and I think I'm gonna go back to Steelcase or something. I don't know. May maybe the I think what is it?

Austen:

The Embody or something? Herman Miller has, like, a newer chair. Maybe it's better. I get that it's a personal thing. Let's talk.

Austen:

Okay. I'm not trying to pooh pooh the chair, and I already said it's bad, but I would like to say specifically what what's bad. Sorry. I'm looking at it. What is bad?

Austen:

The backrest, like, this plastic part here, digs into my back. It digs in. It's not fun. Like, I don't know. Not that I'm, like, leaning back, coding or whatever, but all the time.

Austen:

It's just not that comfortable. But that same plastic rim is, like, underneath your legs, underneath your thighs. That did that's not very comfortable either. Like, you're supposed to sit up on the mesh. My other qualm with it, maybe this is a manufacturing quality control thing.

Austen:

It has a, like, a a gas shock chamber, a gas shock, like, to to raise it up and down. Right? A lot of chairs have these, so you can get the adjustable height. This one is, like, loose, so it, like, wobbles. And I get that they all wobble a little bit.

Austen:

This one wobbles an excessive amount, and it's crazy. So this chair is only three years old. I've done a lot of hours in it. It's fine. It's better than some chairs.

Austen:

Don't get me wrong. But those those three things, the plastic digging in to both things and then the, and I also find that I can't get as much height as I want out of it, which is crazy to me. Like, this is a large size chair. It should go tall enough for tall people. Why don't you put yeah.

Austen:

But the anyway, general discomfort, I'm gonna list my chair today, and I just want you folks to know to go sit in one. If you're gonna buy a Herman Miller chair, maybe reconsider or get it on the cheap from Craigslist from me. That's it for today. Thanks.
